I had the great pleasure this month of playing some great music with my guitar colleagues at CSUN and LMU.
On October 14th the CSUN classical guitar faculty played a concert of guitar chamber music. Dr Steven Thachuk (chair of the guitar department), Ron Borczon, Bryan Fasola, John Dearman (our newest faculty member as of Fall 2011….YAY !! ) and I played a wild mix of duos, trios and quartets including an epic duo arrangement of Bach’s Chaconne, a fantastic trio arrangement of a Radiohead tune (arranged by Steve….my favorite 🙂 and a wonderful trio composition by Steve Thachuk. It was a great and fun concert !!!
On October 22nd my dear friend and colleague Martha Masters (chair of LMU Guitar Department) and I played some wonderful arrangements (by Richard Long) of two Soler Sonata’s at the annual LMU Music Faculty recital. Martha and I have know each other since our college days at USC and have taught at LMU together for over 10 years and shamefully realized that this is the first time in all those years that we have played duos together !!!! We had a great student turn out and had a BLAST playing together 🙂 Hopefully it wont take us another 10 years to find the time to play again 🙂
I am very grateful to be part of such wonderful guitar programs and to have such fabulous colleagues who find the time in their busy schedules to together and play great music !!!!
